story
Years ago, when our horse fell ill, we didn’t yet understand the importance of frequent hay feeding for a sensitive animal. At the veterinarian’s office, we sadly stared at a picture of our horse’s ulcerated stomach.
The knowledge about the significance of frequent hay consumption is still new. Years ago, no one talked about horse hay feeders. We decided to develop one to help our own horses.
In the past, horses roamed with their herd from place to place. A natural feeding rhythm was present. The horse would stop and stretch its neck down towards the hay when needed. This way, it would fill its small stomach naturally and regularly, but not constantly. When humans domesticated horses, the animal’s circumstances changed. Humans wanted the best for their horses but didn’t always understand their new sensitive companions properly. Feeding schedules mirrored human routines. However, the horse’s natural rhythm of life is very different and requires attentive care. Hay needs to be provided frequently, as low as possible, and in small portions. As the saying goes: “Feed a horse like a combine harvester, little by little but often.” Sometimes hay is wasted when it becomes inedible on the floor due to being trampled. There is also the risk of overfeeding or that the horse may simply lose interest in eating hay. For the horse’s well-being, the best practice is to offer hay in small, regular portions.
When a horse’s stomach is not in balance, its performance deteriorates. An upset stomach can cause heartburn and irritate our sensitive friend. We, as horse owners, might not even notice it. The horse hides minor discomforts from us. Only when the problem escalates do feeding-related issues become apparent in the horse’s and its caretakers’ lives. The horse’s behavior changes. In the worst-case scenario, the horse can become seriously ill.
When our own horse fell ill, we realized how crucial frequent hay consumption is for a horse’s health. We built the first version of our Heinätin product and eventually developed an entire product line. Our hay feeder is now in use at many small and large stables. It has all the functions you need. It is easy to install, use and maintain if needed. The product has been tested in the harsh conditions of the North and withstands various environments well. It can be shaped to match the stable’s appearance. Heinätin is a responsible choice, proven in everyday life by both horse owners and veterinarians.
We understand what a simple daily life and a healthy horse mean to a horse owner. Every horse owner wants the best for their friend. We want to nurture the strong bond between human and horse and ensure a long and good life for the horse. With Heinätin products, we create a world with more happy and healthy horses, and satisfied horse owners.
Finland is one of the happiest countries in the world. We want to bring happiness to horses and horse owners as well, through quality, trust, and warmth, from one horse owner to another.
